Salinas, Sept 10th – The City of Salinas broke ground today on a brand-new Salinas Police Services Headquarters building. Project leaders and city officials joined the ground breaking ceremony to celebrate the new project for the City of Salinas. Mayor Joe Gunter and City Councilwoman (District 4), Gloria DeLaRosa, where among the speakers present at today’s event.
“Our fundamental service is continuous protection while patrolling the streets of Salinas 24 hours a day,” said Police Chief Adele Fresé. “And with the new headquarters we are breaking ground on a future of service in partnership with the community.”
John Finke, President of PFG and PFG’s project lead on the new police headquarters building expressed his appreciation. “I would like to say thank you to Mayor Gunter and Councilwoman DeLaRosa for supporting this project, but I especially am grateful for the leadership of Ray Corpuz (Salinas City Manager) and Don Reynolds (Salinas Public Works Director) who put in a lot of hard work to make today happen.”

The new Salinas Police Services Headquarters building is a $56 million project for the City of Salinas that will replace their current police headquarters. Their current facility, originally constructed in 1958, shows significant signs of deterioration and fails to meet their needs. The new police headquarters will consist of two buildings, a two-story, 44,352 square foot building and a second, 24,878 square foot building. The facility that will house all first responder functions and will be build the highest life safety building standards for wind and seismic events. It will also include state-of-the-art evidence storage areas, forensic laboratories, canine and bicycle officer support and a ten-station firing range.
Construction on the project is expected to take 17 months and will begin in August of 2018. Construction completion is scheduled for January of 2020.
