Congratulations to NDC on the recent Bond Buyer article “NDC Highlights ‘American’ P3 Model, Funded with Tax-Exempt Debt,” written by Bond Buyer reporter Keely Webster.
The article features interviews by NDC staff, including Matt Calcavecchia who recently left NDC to join former NDC colleagues John Finke and Erin Birkenkopf to found Public Facilities Group.
“I’m thrilled to be able to continue the important work of Public-Private Partnerships with Public Facilities Group,” said Calcavecchia. “We started PFG with the mission of lessening the burdens of government. Because we are solely focused on Public-Private Partnerships, we can be more innovative and successful.”
PFG President John Finke worked for NDC for more than 30 years, originating and acting as lead on numerous projects, including those mentioned in the article, Riverside County Law Building and all four phases of the UW Medicine South Lake Union Biomedical Research campus. John brought in 27 American Model projects for NDC, before leaving NDC at the beginning of 2016 to found Public Facilities Group.
“We have revised The American Model and replaced it with a model we are calling the New American Approach, which goes several steps further in ensuring a successful project and more control for the public entity. For example, PFG’s New American Approach grants the Public Agency the ability to take control of the Board of the SPE by replacing its members. They can do this at any time should they desire to do so, and this can be implemented for a variety of reasons but is mostly a preventative measure in cases where there is instability within the not-for-profit that is governing the SPE.” Said John Finke.
