The Washington State Data Center is a six story, LEED Platinum, 240,594 square foot office building and data center constructed on the Washington State Capitol Campus. Through a multi-phase RFP process, the State selected a team to deliver the facility using tax-exempt 63-20 bonds and private-sector development expertise.

The project allowed the State to consolidate its information technology staff into one location and provided a data center large enough for its expanding needs. Using innovative procurement techniques and cost-saving measures, the private development team was able to complete the project significantly under budget, with the majority of project savings flowing back to the state for additional facility improvements and rent abatement.  The building won Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) in government building category at the 2016 Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International Conference & Expo.

“The 1500 Jefferson building is a real asset for the Great State of Washington,” said Judy Fitzgerald, Chief Financial Officer of WaTech. “Its 21st century design accommodates all types of working arrangements, supports all types of employee needs and provides public access to the grounds and deli. There are about 950 people who are proud to work in this building each day. The building demonstrates the value of public service and the pride Washingtonians take in their civic spaces.”

PFG staff led this project while employed at National Development Council (NDC), where they created the Special Purpose Entity that issued bonds and oversaw all project related activities.  In 2015, NDC’s Public Facilities development arm left NDC to form PFG.  NDC currently maintains ownership of the project on behalf of Washington State.
